Minis at the Mill - Best Presented Competition

There are six 'Best Presented' categories.

The categories are:

  • Best Presented Original – Pre-2000
  • Best Presented Modified – Pre-2000
  • Best Presented Mini Derivative – Pre-2000
  • Best Presented Competition (All Years)
  • Best Presented BMW Mini (R-series)
  • Best Presented BMW Mini (F-series)

Each category is assigned two judges.

Judges of any category cannot have a car entered in that same category, but may have a car entered in another.

Judges are selected randomly by attendees on the day - they are not necessarily Hotbricks judges.

People's Choice and Best in Show class

People's Choice is made by majority vote by those who return a completed voting form. The voting form is provided as part of your entry package.

People's Choice voting is only open to those who display their car on the grounds. Any car is eligible - use the registration number (or race number in the event of a race car) to nominate.

Your entry must be returned to the Hotbricks marquee by midday.

Best in Show is awarded to the entrant in any 'Best Presented' category who scores the most points.

In the event of a tie of Best in Show, all judges will be called on to provide an individual score. The highest scorer will be Best in Show.

Best Presented categories

All cars will be judged on their presentation.

For example, the Best Presented Modified category will be won by the best presented modified vehicle, not the most modified vehicle.

It is a competition about how well you can present the car within that category and not necessarily about how closely you are aligned to that category.

To give another example, the Best Presented Original class is not about rivet counting, hose clamp inspections or micron counting paint thickness.

It is purely about presentation.

Our roaming Hotbricks members can point you in the right direction if you're unsure.

The Best Presented categories are explained in some more detail below:

Original - Pre-2000

This is the class for original specification Minis built prior to 2000.

It includes everything from the first 850 to the last Rover Mini.

The class will accept vehicles preserved over the years, or that have been authentically restored to original condition.

An A-series engine is naturally requisite.

Modified - Pre-2000

A popular category for every rev-head or enthusiast seeking the ultimate vehicle stance.

Minis in this class will have been modified to some degree: engine, body, paint, exterior and/or interior.

No two modified Minis are the same, and we're here to see them all!

From highly polished street cars to rowdy weekend cruisers.

Hot A-series or an engine that belongs in the car it was made for, this is the 'hot' class.

Street registration is a requisite for this class.

Mini Derivative - Pre-2000

This class is for those cars using Mini running gear, but featured in a different body to that of a Mini.

Maybe a Moke, maybe a Sprint, a Broadspeed, a Pellandini, or a Buckle.

All modified and original derivatives are welcome, ranging from mild to wild.

Competition (All Years)

If your Mini (or derivative) is no longer a street car, it is probably your dedicated track car.

This is where the hottest of hot 'bricks' will be judged.

Attention to detail, drivers. Make sure your pit crew knows what tyre shine is.

BMW Mini 'R-series'

The modern MINI arrived in Australia in 2001. With it came radical restyling as BMW picked up the name.

This class includes all R-series designation: from the R50 Cooper through to the R61 Paceman.

If there's an R in front of it, this is the class. Reach out to any roaming Hotbricks member if you're unsure of your designation.

BMW Mini 'F-series'

The F series came after the R series. Alphabets do not reign supreme when it comes to MINIs.

The F generation continues to embody the character of the Mini - centre speedos, rattles, intermittent starting.

The F-series class includes that in the F54 through to F67.

It also includes the latest U and J series.

Where there are more than two entries in any category, a first and second place award will be presented.

A single award will be presented for the following 2 categories.

People's Choice

This category is not restricted to any one type of vehicle. We will provide every car entering the Mill a voting slip, you peruse the crowd, choose your favourite and put your vote into the box for counting.

Best in Show

This award will be presented to the outright highest point scoring car of any category at the event.
